Say hello to the team

Andrés Lemus-Spont (he/him) is an artist, educator, fabricator, and proud child of Mexican immigrants. In addition to founding Building Brown Workshop, he has taught art, architecture, and humanities with k-12, college, and adult learners. Andrés first developed his interest in designing and building while studying architecture at College of DuPage and Illinois Institute of Technology. Alongside Marya Spont-Lemus, Andrés co-founded ¡Anímate! Studio, a community arts practice that is a vehicle for playful, intergenerational creative workshops centered around joy and criticality in public space. Andrés was also a founding member of Mobilize Creative Collaborative and Cooperation Racine.

Parvathi Krishnan

Parvathi (they/them) is a multi-media artist, designer, and fabricator with a focus in fiber craft. They studied Industrial Design at UIC's College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts. Outside of the shop, Parvathi enjoys hosting community events and fundraisers, playing the flute, and vending at artisan markets.

AWXEL Cajas

AWXEL (She/They) is a trans-disciplinary Fabricator, Artist, and Alt-Drag Performer currently based in Chicago. When she isn’t hosting a fundraiser, you can find her at your local punk shows.
