Inequity for Sale is an artistic, critical exploration of how the use of racist Land Sale Contracts directly contributed to the wealth gap and community disinvestment we witness today. In addition to the 15 land markers placed in front of abandoned homes and lots, the project also consisted of a website documenting the project, and Legally Stolen, a podcast connecting this history of plunder to present-day conditions in Greater Englewood. Since the land markers would be installed without permission of the land owner (and therefore couldn’t be anchored down) and it would have to withstand the elements, the design utilized a large custom concrete base, stainless steel post, and Corian marker for durability. The text on the land marker was CNC engraved onto the yellow Corian for legibility and longevity.
